DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a SPACE for Gosforth Family/Social Cycle Ride – 17th June 2018.\n\n\n\n\nA quiet 8 mile route through Jesmond Dene\, City Stadium and the Town Moor. Meet from midday at the War Memorial in Gosforth Central Park for a 12.30pm start.\n\n\n\n\nEveryone is welcome but we do ask that children are accompanied/supervised by an adult. \nIf anyone else is willing and/or able to help out on the ride\, e.g. helping at junctions and road crossings\, please do let us know via spaceforgosforth@gmail.com and/or make yourself known to the ride leaders on the day. \n\n\n\nOrganised by SPACE for Gosforth with support from The BIG BIKE Revival & local company Bike4Health. DESCRIPTION:Talk and discussion with Tom Bailey\, author of the Garden City Guide to Active Travel  \nTom is a consultant chartered surveyor advising property companies on regeneration and new developments. He previously led the North East England infrastructure delivery programme for sustainable transport charity Sustrans. \nHe will share his thoughts on what new housing developments can and should be doing to contribute to sustainable travel in new and existing areas. This is particularly appropriate with the concerns expressed about the recently announced developments to the north of Gosforth. SUMMARY:Public Meeting: Blue House junction - issues and solutions
DESCRIPTION:There is obvious widespread opposition across our community to the council’s plans for the Blue House\, Osborne Road\, and Haddrick’s Mill junctions. Rather than focus on the obvious problems to the plans put forward by the council\, we want to talk about the wider issues\, the current problems with these junctions\, and alternative suggestions for Blue House and Haddricks Mill. We want to look at practical solutions to the transport issues we face. \nWe will share SPACE for Gosforth’s perspective on the problems at and around these junctions (such as air pollution\, accident rates\, and rat-running through residential streets)\, as well as the ‘bigger picture issues’ behind these plans\, such as the housing developments around Newcastle\, the lack of cheap and reliable public transport systems\, the need for more action on walking and cycling. \nWe hope to have an inclusive and focussed discussion on the potential alternatives to these unpopular proposals\, putting forward our alternative visions for Blue House and Haddricks Mill junctions and hearing\, collecting\, and using alternative ideas from the community. \nWe hope this will help inform a broader\, more rounded response to the problems currently being discussed and help shape the future transport of our community. \nPlease come along and contribute your ideas! \nNote: this is a free event\, but donations to cover the cost of room hire will be welcome.

SUMMARY:We're on the High Street! Air Quality Monitoring
DESCRIPTION:SPACE presence on the High Street: Saturday 17th October from 11am-2pm. \nWe will be setting up a stall on the High Street tomorrow morning to raise awareness of SPACE with local people and particularly highlight the air quality issue. We will have a monitor for fine particulates and be able to measure the levels during our time there. The stall will also include leaflets about SPACE and about air pollution for local people to take away. Hopefully the presence of the monitor will attract attention and raise our profile a bit. \n\nIf you are planning to be around in Gosforth between 11am and 2pm tomorrow please come along and say hello. We will be outside Boots opposite Trinity Square. This will be a good chance for us to meet each other\, to take materials for our family and friends\, and to talk to members of the public about the issues and solutions as we see them. \nHope to see some of you there and please share!
